The Boothbay Harbor Opera House is a 501c3 non-profit organization that relies upon, and welcomes, all forms of contributions to help us meet operating expenses and enable us to create a vibrant cultural center for our community.

Membership

Your support makes it possible for us to provide programming and event space for the community while preserving this historic building in downtown Boothbay Harbor. In order to continue our operations, which include the costs of programming, administration, utilities and facilities maintenance - we need your help! After standing for more than 100 years in downtown Boothbay Harbor, the Opera House in 2008 was in need of restoration and capital improvements. In 2008 we replaced the 80 year old roof, installed new doors and windows, repainted the exterior and repaired the rot at the roofline and insulated the building. These projects were completed and have helped preserve this gem of a structure and provided additional patron comfort, especially during our winter performances. These capital improvements are already helping to control our heating expenses. There are other capital improvements in the works and these projects need your help, as they an addition to our annual operating budget. Ticket sales, membership dues and sponsorships - while all important - will not cover these capital needs. Friends of the Opera House

The Friends of the Opera House are our Extreme Volunteers. This group meets several times a month and tackles substantial Opera House clean-up projects. It's not all elbow-grease, though. The Friends plan fundraisers, including the wildly spooky Halloween Party and the Artisian's Craft Fair. This is the group for those able to dedicate some seriously fun time to the Opera House mission. The Friends keep a short wish list which currently includes large fans to help keep the auditorium cool during the summer, benches for outside the Opera House, tablecloths, and an awning for the entry. If you can help with any of these, please contact Susan Brackett at the above email!

Volunteer

The Opera House welcomes all volunteers, local or out-of-town. While volunteers are almost always needed, the curtain does not rise on Opera House programming without many volunteers pitching in to help usher and take tickets, run the box office and the lights and clean up after the show. If you are interested in receiving more information, contact us online or by phone at 207.633.6855. We also strongly encourage anyone interested in volunteering to stop in to meet with us so that we can best match your skills with the jobs on hand.
