Our Mission Statement :
"The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor is a community arts center dedicated to the presentation of quality programs and the preservation of an historic building for the enrichment of the community.
Serving a wide range of arts and civic organizations, it strives to enliven and enrich the region on a year-round basis, and grow along with the needs and vision of the community. "
About the Boothbay Harbor Opera House Facility :
The Opera House, now in its second century as a mid-coast Maine landmark, has played many roles. From school gym to an indoor mini-mall any many things in between, the Opera House has seen both good times and bad. It was saved and preserved in 2002 by a group of committed citizens, volunteers and donors. Just a few years later, the Opera House is an exciting and well-known destination for Maine arts and cultural activities.
The Opera House is a year-round, multi-purpose performance facility equipped to host a variety of small to medium-sized events. In fact, it plays host to a wide range of cultural and civic organizations' events. The main performance space seats up to 400 people in a variety of configurations. With excellent acoustics, mezzanine seating and historical charm, the main hall provides a wonderful place to see a performance. Quite literally, there isn't a bad seat in the house.
The gallery upstairs is perfect for smaller, more intimate performances, exhibits and dining events. This area's focus is a handcrafted thirty foot bar in the original fraternal meeting room of the Knights of Pythias. The Opera House has a full liquor license and a professional kitchen available. In addition to old world charm, the modern convenience of wireless internet access is available throughout the building.
The third floor of the Opera House provides additional space for future expansion, including possible studio and rehearsal areas, office space, as well as facilities for any of the region's other artistic and cultural needs.
The greatest draw of the building is its versatility. The spaces at the Opera House allow nearly unlimited flexibility - from small intimate rehearsals and performances to large events filling the entire building. This incarnation of the Opera House, reminiscent of the original founders' intent, has returned a spectrum of artistic life to the old building in downtown Boothbay Harbor.
Renting the Opera House
While the Opera House presents over a hundred concerts and programs annually, there are still times when some of our wonderful space is available for other uses including conferences and business meetings during the day, wedding receptions, private parties, and classes. The main stage and House are available, as is the historic upstairs bar and gallery. Our kitchen is available for caterers.
